Munaf Patel Fined 25% of Fee for IPL Code of Conduct Breach

Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and given one demerit point for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during the intense match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

Details of the Incident Involving Munaf Patel

Delhi Capitals bowling coach Munaf Patel was fined 25 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct for his behavior in the high-stakes game against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

The match was a heart-stopper on Wednesday night as DC won the Super Over after the two sides had been tied at 188 runs.

The former India pacer “admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game,” said an IPL statement.

Official Statement and Possible Reason

“Munaf Patel, Bowling Coach, Delhi Capitals has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated One Demerit Point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday,” said the statement.

The statement did not reveal Munaf’s precise offence, but he was probably fined for his confrontation with a match official after the former India paceman was not permitted to send a player into the middle to deliver his message.

The Role of Munaf Patel in Delhi Capitals

Munaf, one of the main members of India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team under MS Dhoni, was made DC bowling coach last November, replacing James Hopes.

Article 2.20 applies to all forms of behavior that are against the game’s spirit and are not fully and specifically addressed by the particular offences in this Code of Conduct.
