New Zealand opener Mark Chapman, who was ruled out of the second ODI against Pakistan because of a hamstring injury, will miss the third and final match of the series on Saturday at Mount Maunganui. Tim Seifert, who was named Chapman’s stand-in for the second ODI, will remain as his stand-in. Pakistan’s nightmare, Mark Chapman, had a small hamstring tear while fielding in the ODI series opener in Napier.
“Chapman was excluded from the second ODI in Hamilton due to a slight hamstring tear, and a review at training today showed he hadn’t recovered enough to resume his spot in the XI for the last game of the home summer,” New Zealand Cricket announced on Friday.
Career-Best Knock Before Injury By Mark Chapman
Prior to incurring the injury, Mark Chapman devastated Pakistan’s star-studded team with his career-high 132, which set up New Zealand’s comprehensive 73-run victory. Although Chapman had to miss out on the second ODI, New Zealand didn’t sweat to secure an unassailable 2-0 advantage in the three-match series.
New Zealand’s Dominance in the Series
Although the first ODI was slightly competitive, the second game resonated with the Kiwis’ dominance. Pakistan were thoroughly defeated in all aspects of the game. Mitchell Hay’s 99* not out haunted Pakistan bowlers, while Ben Sears, in his first five-wicket haul, was a nightmare for the Men in Green batsmen.

Among the top-six batsmen, Babar Azam (1), Abdullah Shafique (1), Salman Agha (9), Mohammad Rizwan (5) and Imam-ul-Haq (3), only Tayyab Tahir (13) managed to cross the double-digit score. Meanwhile, the others had to content themselves with a single-digit score.
Tim Seifert’s Blazing Form in T20I Series
Seifert was summoned for the second ODI following his blistering performances in the five-match T20I series. The 30-year-old played a priceless role with his scorching performances. While the Blackcaps thrashed Pakistan and clinched a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
The veteran wicket-keeper batsman finished the five-match series as the top run-scorer on both teams with 249 runs at a strike rate of 207.50 and was awarded the Player of the Series title.
Lack of Recent ODI Experience for Seifert
Although Seifert has been included in the team, he has not played an ODI for the Kiwis in the last five years. His last match was in January 2019 against Sri Lanka.
During the second ODI, Mark Chapman was replaced by Sears with Seifert sitting out the match. Apart from Chapman, New Zealand was deprived of the services of Tom Latham due to him breaking his hand.
