As the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 10 and 12 results for 2025, an old picture of Virat Kohli’s Class 10 marksheet from 2004 made a strong comeback on social media. Originally shared by IAS officer Jitin Yadav in 2023, the marksheet grabbed attention again, coinciding with Kohli’s recent announcement of retirement from Test cricket.
This resurgence serves as a powerful reminder that academic scores alone do not define success.
The Marks Talk, So Does the Journey
Kohli scored 419 out of 600 in his Class 10 exams. While he excelled in subjects like English (83), Social Science (81), and Hindi (75), his scores in Maths (51), Science and Technology (55), and Introductory IT (74) portrayed a more average academic record. Despite these modest numbers, Kohli’s path to becoming one of cricket’s greatest icons shows that passion and perseverance matter far more than marks.
Had marks been the sole factor, the entire nation wouldn’t be rallying behind him now.

IAS officer Jitin Yadav posted the marksheet on social media along with a revealing message: “Had marks been the only factor, the whole country won’t be supporting him now. Passion and Dedication are the key.” This appeal struck a chord with many, urging the students and the aspirants to concentrate on their dedication and aspirations instead of numbers on paper.
Social media users echoed this sentiment. One user commented, “Kohli has a valid marksheet, dedication, Success, and became the Pride of our Nation.” Another remarked, “Success is beyond Science and Mathematics,” while a third added, “Marks are merely numbers on a sheet – true value lies in perseverance and dedication.”
Kohli’s Emotional Farewell to Test Cricket
During the same week, Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from Test cricket in an emotional Instagram post. Recalling his 14-year career, he explained how the format tested and molded him. “It’s 14 years since I wore the baggy blue for the first time in Test cricket. Truthfully, I never knew the journey this format would have in store for me. It tested me, molded me, and imparted lessons that I will carry for life.”
Kohli showed thanks and embraced even as the choice proved tough. “As I move away from this format, it’s not straightforward – but it is right. I’ve given it every bit of myself, and it’s given me so much more than I could have asked for.”
Interestingly, Kohli had previously retired from T20 internationals in June last year itself, and he will keep playing One-Day Internationals (ODIs).
Beyond Marks and Medals
Virat Kohli’s story highlights a vital lesson for students and professionals alike: academic marks are just one piece of the puzzle. Passion, dedication, and resilience often define the true measure of success. Kohli’s journey from an average student to a global cricket icon inspires millions to pursue their dreams beyond the constraints of conventional academic achievement.
