Gujarat Titans batter Jos Buttler attained a personal milestone in the current IPL 2025 season, becoming the third-quickest overseas cricketer to score 4000 runs in the history of the tournament. The milestone was attained during Gujarat Titans’ match against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Buttler achieved the milestone in a mere 116 innings, ranking only behind David Warner and AB de Villiers among the quickest overseas players to the 4000-run mark. His achievement is another feather in the cap of a player who has been dominating the IPL since his debut in 2016.
England’s white-ball captain has been the most feared opening batsman over the past couple of seasons, combining traditional strokeplay with raw power hitting. In 117 games, Buttler averages 40.30 and has a scorching strike rate of 149.43. Among his IPL totals are 7 centuries, 23 half-centuries, and a top score of 124, cementing his status as a match-winner for Rajasthan Royals.
Superb Company For IPL Legends
Buttler’s joining the 4000-run club finds him overtaking other overseas greats such as Chris Gayle, Faf du Plessis, and David Miller, again establishing his position as a top T20 batsman. Among overseas players, only Warner (6565 runs) and de Villiers (5162 runs) have accumulated more runs in the IPL.
In terms of innings taken, Warner and de Villiers are the only overseas players to have achieved the 4000-run mark quicker than Buttler, so his achievement becomes even more impressive considering the strength and competitiveness of the league. His reliability and capacity to raise the tempo in trying situations have made him an invaluable asset to RR’s top order and one of the most thrilling players of the format.
Jos Buttler Chasing the Greats
Though Indian titans such as Virat Kohli (8447), Rohit Sharma (6921), and Shikhar Dhawan (6769) are ruling the overall runs charts, Buttler is persistently narrowing down the gap towards other old-hands such as Ajinkya Rahane (4939) and Robin Uthappa (4952).
