WWE legend John Cena surprised fans once again, this time showing up on SmackDown in Lakers-themed gear and teaming up with Logan Paul to ambush Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. The surprise attack came just days ahead of their scheduled tag-team clash at WWE’s Money in the Bank 2025 event.
The June 6 episode of SmackDown started with a tense face-off between the two teams, but things escalated quickly when Logan Paul blindsided Uso with his signature knockout punch. Cena, dressed in a purple and gold jersey, joined the assault. Fans were stunned as the segment turned into a full-on beatdown. Cena, long known for his heroic “never give up” image, ended the segment with a bold line after fans chanted “We want Truth!”, referring to R-Truth’s WWE contract renewal. Cena looked into the crowd and said, “You can’t handle the truth!”
Cena’s Heel Turn And Its Reactions
This new version of Cena has drawn mixed reactions from the WWE Universe. The shift in character began earlier this year at Elimination Chamber 2025 when Cena turned heel, a major move that shocked long-time fans. His brutal attack on Cody Rhodes while aligning with The Rock sent a clear message that the old Cena was gone.
While some fans welcomed the change, calling it a fresh direction in his career, others were disappointed. After years of playing the good guy, Cena’s sudden betrayal left many feeling conflicted.
John Cena On Retirement
In a recent interview, Cena addressed his physical limits and hinted at retirement. “My skills are on regress. If I continue at full physical involvement, I’m not going to run right. My partner’s not gonna run right. Our relationship isn’t gonna run right. Sorry, kid, it’s time to close this chapter,” he said.
He added, “I used to do a clean and jerk with 330 pounds. That’s a 300-pound snatch. I can’t even do those lifts anymore because my body’s so beat up.” Despite his struggles, Cena admitted he still feels at home in the ring. “I wish I was 18. I wish I felt great. But I don’t feel more at home, besides in the arms of my wife, than I do on the canvas,” he shared.
As Cena prepares to fight alongside Logan Paul at Money in the Bank, fans are watching closely. Love him or hate him, Cena’s new persona is turning heads, and shaking up WWE in a big way.
