India’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.
Bumrah’s outstanding performance during India’s December 2024 tour of Australia earned him the prestigious honor, as he outperformed other nominees Pat Cummins and Dane Paterson. Throughout the three-Test series, Bumrah claimed an impressive 22 wickets at an incredible average of 14.22, becoming the backbone of India’s bowling attack.
His dominance started with a crucial four-wicket haul in Adelaide, where he played a key role in restricting Australia’s lead, keeping India within striking distance. In Brisbane, Bumrah delivered an exceptional performance, taking six wickets in the first innings, followed by three more in the second innings, resulting in a nine-wicket match haul. Despite adverse weather affecting the match, Bumrah’s efforts kept India in the hunt for the series.
In the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, Bumrah once again proved his mettle, picking up four wickets in the first innings and then taking five wickets in the second innings, dismissing Australia for 234. Although India’s batting struggled, Bumrah’s remarkable bowling stood out, despite the team’s 184-run loss.
Throughout a challenging tour, Bumrah was consistently India’s standout performer, earning the Player of the Series award. His contribution further solidified his status as one of the premier bowlers in world cricket. He also reached the milestone of 200 Test wickets during the series, becoming the fourth-fastest player to achieve this feat in terms of balls bowled. Remarkably, he became the first bowler in history to take 200 Test wickets at an average under 20.
For his match-winning displays, Jasprit Bumrah has been honored with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month title for December 2024.
