IPL 2025 Suspension Amid India-Pakistan Tensions? Chairman Responds

As tensions escalate between India and Pakistan, the future of IPL 2025 hangs in the balance. On Thursday evening, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal commented on the potential suspension of the league due to the ongoing military conflict. While speaking to the media, Dhumal confirmed that the situation will be reviewed thoroughly before any decision is made.

“We are reviewing the situation right now,” Dhumal said, indicating that a call on whether IPL 2025 will continue amidst the Indo-Pak military conflict will be made after assessing the developments. He added that no official directive has yet been issued from the government.

Match Suspended in Dharamshala Due to Security Concerns

The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, scheduled in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, was interrupted due to a series of attacks launched by Pakistan. Drone and missile strikes targeted various Indian cities, including regions in Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The stadium in Dharamshala was evacuated as a precautionary measure after the town was plunged into darkness.

Escalating Tensions Between India and Pakistan

The situation between India and Pakistan saw a significant escalation on Thursday evening after a drone and missile attack from Pakistan was intercepted by Indian defence systems. The attempted strike, confirmed by India’s Ministry of Defence, caused blackouts in several cities and led to air raid sirens sounding across northern India.

Indian authorities confirmed that military targets across Jammu, Punjab, and Rajasthan were hit by missiles and drones, but the attacks were effectively neutralised by the country’s Integrated Air Defence systems.

This escalation follows India’s military operation, ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched a day earlier. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in retaliation for a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

As the situation continues to unfold, IPL authorities remain on alert, ensuring the safety of players, staff, and fans.
