Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will play the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday, June 1, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The team that emerges victorious from this contest will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final on June 3.
Weather Might Delay Match Start
While the fans await the result with bated breath, the weather is a cause for concern. Based on weather.com, it will be hot and humid in Ahmedabad. Yet, there are chances of light showers during 5 pm — nearer to the game’s commencement time — which would lead to a postponement.
What Happens If Match Is Washed Out?
If the weather does not allow the match to commence or leads to a full washout, the playing rules of the IPL for 2025 will be applied. The side that was placed above the other in the league table will move into the final in that case.
According to IPL regulations: “If conditions do not allow for a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the available time to decide the winner then the team which, at the conclusion of the relevant regular Season, were placed higher in the League shall be considered the winner of the relevant play-off match.”
This implies that if there is no play, Punjab Kings, who are 1st in the league table, will qualify for the final before Mumbai Indians, who are 4th.
No Reserve Day, but Extra Time Reserved
In contrast to the last, Qualifier 2 is not scheduled with a reserve day. To counter weather interruptions, the IPL council has provided an extra two-hour buffer to finish playoff matches. This will enable ground staff enough time to ready the field for play even in the event of weather delay.
