The highly-awaited IPL 2025 final match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) may be disrupted by rain at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. According to AccuWeather, there is more than a 50% possibility of showers in the afternoon on June 3. Though conditions are likely to get better in the evening, with forecasted 33% cloud cover, both the teams need to remain ready for instant changes.
RCB and PBKS Eye First-Ever IPL Trophy
The two franchises have not yet won an IPL title, so the final is a high-stakes game. RCB earned a place in the final by beating PBKS in Qualifier 1. PBKS, however, recovered well by defeating five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to arrange a rematch against RCB.
In spite of the impending weather threat, officials are hopeful of finishing the match. Playing conditions provide for a 120-minute extension if rain results in postponements. Also, a reserve day has been planned to fit the match in case weather conditions do not permit play on the planned day.
Reserve Day Hopes for Continuous Play
The reserve day weather forecast looks much improved, minimizing the prospect of an outright washout. Weather is, however, an unpredictable beast. In a worst-case scenario of neither the planned day nor the reserve day being conducive to play, PBKS will be declared champions on the strength of their superior position in the points table.
Past Finals: Neither Side’s History is Favored
RCB has also gone to the IPL final three times — in 2009, 2011, and 2016 — but lost each time to Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. PBKS, on their part, appeared only once before in the 2014 final, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
As the fans await with bated breath, the focus will also be on the skies. With everything at stake on both sides, fingers are crossed for fair weather to permit a complete and enthralling conclusion of IPL 2025.
