IPL 2025: CSK Crush Gujarat Titans by 83 Runs

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) delivered a dominant performance against Gujarat Titans (GT) with an 83-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25. However, despite this emphatic win, CSK ended their Indian Premier League 2025 campaign at the bottom of the table with just 8 points from 14 matches — their worst finish in IPL history.

Gujarat Titans struggle in chase of 231

Gujarat, already at the top of the table with 18 points from 14 matches, suffered a blow to their Net Run Rate due to the heavy loss. Their final league standing now hinges on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (17 points) losing to Lucknow Super Kings in their last match. If either Mumbai Indians (16 points) or Punjab Kings (17 points) win their next game, they could leap ahead of GT.

Chasing a daunting 231-run target, GT got off to a disastrous start. They lost skipper Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Sherfane Rutherford inside the Power Play, scoring just 35 runs. Pacer Anshul Kamboj wreaked havoc early, dismissing Gill and Rutherford.

Sai Sudharsan (41 off 28) and M Shahrukh Khan (19) put together a 55-run stand to offer brief hope. But Ravindra Jadeja’s double strike in the 11th over, removing both batters within four balls, sealed the match for CSK. GT were bowled out for 147 in 18.3 overs.

Brevis, Conway, and youngsters fire CSK to 230

Earlier, CSK opted to bat first and put up a massive 230/5, courtesy of fifties from Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis, with support from explosive knocks by young batters Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel.

Conway’s steady 52 off 35 balls was complemented by Brevis’ blistering 57 off 23. Mhatre (34 off 17) and Urvil Patel (37 off 19) struck at high strike rates of 200 and 194 respectively, laying the foundation for the huge total.

Mhatre took Arshad Khan apart in the second over, smashing 28 runs with two fours and three sixes. Though he fell to Prasidh Krishna soon after, Patel continued the onslaught. He added 63 runs with Conway before getting dismissed by Sai Kishore after hitting him for a six.

Conway showed rare aggression against Rashid Khan, smashing him for a six before being bowled next ball. Brevis lived up to his ‘Baby ABD’ moniker by hammering Mohammed Siraj for two sixes and a four in a single over.

Brevis then stitched a 74-run partnership with Jadeja (21 off 18), pushing CSK past the 230 mark. Despite finishing last in the league, the performance of CSK’s youngsters gives the franchise hope for the next season.

While CSK’s campaign in IPL 2025 ended at the bottom of the table, their final match showcased the potential of their young stars. The team will now look to rebuild around this core as they aim for a stronger comeback next season.
