eIndian Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi tied the knot with fiancée Nidhi Kataria in an intimate ceremony on April 2, 2025. Gujrathi was engaged to Nidhi in November 2024, and ever since has been occupied with marriage celebrations, for which the player played fewer online and offline chess tournaments. Nidhi’s spouse is a homeopathic physician by profession. Whereas Vidit is 25th in the live chess rating of FIDE and India’s sixth.

Early Life and Education of Vidit Gujrathi

Vidit Santosh Gujrathi was born on October 24, 1994, to his parents, medical professionals Santosh and Nikita Gujrathi, in Nashik, Maharashtra, India. The current Chess Grandmaster had his primary education at Nashik’s Fravashi Academy.  Vidit Gujrathi’s journey as a chess player commenced with local trainers as his guide.

Early Chess Achievements of Vidit Gujrathi

Vidit’s ability was made apparent early. In 2006, he finished second in the Asian Youth Championships (U12 section), receiving the title of FIDE Master. Two years later, he created history by winning the World Youth Chess Championship U14 section, being the first Indian to achieve so. It also earned him the International Master title. Vidit became the 30th Grandmaster of India by 2013.

Professional Career and Major Milestones of Vidit Gujrathi

His professional career has been highlighted by numerous milestones. In 2013, he won a bronze medal at the World Junior Chess Championship in Turkey. In 2018, he took home the Challenger event of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament with an undefeated score of 9/13.

The following year, he triumphed at the Biel Chess Festival. In 2020, he served as captain of the gold medal-winning Indian team in the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad. Most recently, in 2023, he secured victory at the FIDE Grand Swiss Tournament, qualifying for the 2024 Candidates Tournament.

In March 2025, Vidit triumphed in the Paris Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Play-In and qualified for the next Paris Freestyle Chess Grand Slam to be held in April. Off the chessboard, Vidit launched his engagement to Dr. Nidhi Kataria in November 2024.
