India’s trip to Australia for the T20 men’s world cup received a huge jolt as their star bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the mega event due to a back stress fracture.
While it leaves a huge space to fill in the squad Pravin Tambe, former Rajasthan Royals spinner feels that despite India missing out on the services of Bumrah, they have enough depth in the squad and will be able to sail through without facing much problem.
Talking exclusively to NewsX on a cricket special show presented by Dafa News, Tambe said, “We have very good bowlers in the current team and I do not think there will be a problem because of Bumrah not playing. Yes, Bumrah is a world-class talent and the team will miss him but at the same time I think we have very good bowlers and everyone will perform to their potential.”
Speaking about who could fit into Bumrah’s shoes during the World Cup, he said, “See no one could fill anyone’s shoes. When you are selected to play for your country, that too in the World Cup, it means you are better than the rest and will be expected to perform to that level.”
“Siraj is a good choice to replace Bumrah in the playing XI. He has performed well for India in the past as well and the fact and bouncy wickets in Australia will suit him better,” the oldest debutant in the IPL said.
India is currently engaged in a three-match ODI series against South Africa at home. They have recently won the T20I series against them 2-1. In the last match of the series against the Proteas in Indore, the hosts were outplayed completely and lost by 49 runs.
Questions were raised on India’s performance in the last match but Pravin thinks that there is nothing to be worried and the team is well prepared ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
“Not much should be made out about India’s performance in that match. They had already won the series and were experimenting with the combination and testing the players. I think from their perspective they know what to do and what is the right combination and the best way forward,” he added.
