The India U-19 Women’s team won a comprehensive 9-wicket triumph over South Africa in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday in the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup that has seen India successfully defend the championship.
With this win, India became the first team in history to succeed in defending its Women’s Under-19 world title.

Gongadi Trisha starred with the ball, taking 3/15, and was instrumental with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 44*, leading her team to a comfortable victory.

South Africa, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, found it difficult against India’s spinners. The Proteas’ batters could not build partnerships, and only three players, Jemma Botha, Karaba Meso, and Fay Cowling, scored more than 10 runs, while Mieke Van Voorst scored a quickfire 23 off 18 balls before getting dismissed.

South Africa’s innings folded for just 82 runs, with Gongadi Trisha taking 3/15 as the bowling spear for India. Vaishnavi Sharma, Aayushi Shukla, and Parunika Sisodia shared two wickets each, while Shabnam Shakil accounted for one wicket.

India faced a modest target and, after an early setback when opener G Kamalini was dismissed for 8, cruised through the chase. Gongadi Trisha’s 44* off 33 balls and Sanika Chalke’s 26* off 22 balls took India to victory in just 12 overs, sealing the historic win by eight wickets.
