During the third ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, Jay Shah, Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), revealed the start of the &’Donate Organs, Save Lives&’ awareness initiative on social media. Using his official handle on X (formerly Twitter), Shah issued the statement urging people to back organ donation for those in crisis.
“On the occasion of the 3rd ODI between India and England in Ahmedabad on February 12th, we are proud to launch an awareness initiative – ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives,’” he wrote. He further emphasized, “Sport has the power to inspire, unite, and create lasting impact beyond the field. Through this initiative, we urge everyone to take a step towards giving the greatest gift of all – the gift of life.”
Shah continued, “One pledge, one decision, can save multiple lives. Let’s come together and make a difference!”
India won the second game of the ongoing ODI series by four wickets at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Where Shubman Gill added 60 runs, Rohit Sharma scored 119 runs off 90 deliveries. Helping to guarantee the victory were Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel with 44 and 41 runs, respectively.
The best bowler was Ravindra Jadeja, who took 3/35 and clearly showed himself to be in excellent shape before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India’s Virat Kohli returned after sitting out the first game with a knee issue but was slammed for only five runs by Adil Rashid of England.
The third ODI should offer the Indian team an opportunity to provide much-needed game time to bench players before the next ICC tournament. While the other games will be in Pakistan, India will have all its matches including knockout games staged in Dubai.
