Hardik Pandya's Captaincy Future Uncertain: Focus On Bowling And Batting
Hardik Pandya climbed two spots to tie with Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga as the top-ranked men’s T20I all-rounder, according to the ICC official website on Wednesday. Pandya, who played a pivotal role in the final by taking crucial wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, had an impressive tournament with both bat and ball, becoming the first Indian man to reach No.1 in this category.
Pandya made significant contributions with impactful lower-order batting cameos and timely bowling breakthroughs. He amassed 144 runs at a batting strike rate exceeding 150 and also claimed 11 wickets. His standout performance came in the final, where his decisive dismissal of Klaasen shifted the game in India’s favor. Pandya also bowled the tense final over, defending 16 runs to secure India’s T20 World Cup victory.
Other changes in the top 10 T20I all-rounder rankings saw Marcus Stoinis, Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan, and Liam Livingstone each rising by one spot, while Mohammad Nabi dropped out of the top five after falling four spots.
In the men’s T20I bowling rankings, Anrich Nortje surged seven places to a career-best second position, just behind top-ranked Adil Rashid with 675 rating points. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star fast bowler and Player of the Tournament for his 15 wickets, jumped 12 spots to just outside the top ten, his highest position since late 2020. Kuldeep Yadav entered the top ten, advancing three spots to joint-eighth. Other notable movers included Arshdeep Singh, who rose four spots to a career-best No.13 after leading the wickets tally at the T20 World Cup, and Tabraiz Shamsi, who climbed five positions to reach the top 15.
There was minimal change in the top ten batting rankings, with South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram dropping two spots following a subpar tournament performance.
