The Gujarat Titans (GT) begin their IPL 2025 journey against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. GT captain and India’s ODI vice-captain Shubman Gill is looking for a redemption season after a dismal 2024, in which GT was placed 8th. Punjab Kings, with new skipper Shreyas Iyer at the helm, are looking to change their fortunes after decades of underperformance in the tournament.

Gill and Iyer Bring Champions Trophy 2025 Momentum

Both Gill and Iyer come into IPL 2025 in fine form. They played pivotal parts in India’s Champions Trophy victory in Dubai a fortnight ago. Iyer was India’s leading run-getter with 243 runs in five games. Gill, meanwhile, pulverized a century in the first match against Bangladesh and played a huge role throughout the tournament. Their current form may prove to be the turning point in Tuesday’s big-ticket match.

Gujarat Titans and Gill Look for Redemption

Gill’s inaugural season as GT captain in 2024 was tough, as the team ended up in 8th place. It was a far cry from their championship season in 2022 and a second-place finish in 2023 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. Having taken the experience of last season, Gill can now spearhead GT to the winning lanes and show himself as a force to be reckoned with as an IPL captain.

Can Iyer End Punjab’s Long Wait?

Punjab Kings have lacked consistency despite numerous squad rotations and leadership overhauls. The team, which made it to the semifinals in 2008 and was runners-up in 2014, has not been able to make it to the top five in the past four IPL seasons. But with Iyer at the helm, PBKS might finally achieve the stability they require. His past triumphs are taking Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL championship in 2024 and taking Delhi Capitals to the 2020 final of the IPL. Now, he is joining hands with coach Ricky Ponting at Punjab, providing the perfect environment for a new beginning.

PBKS’ New Journey Under Iyer

Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy gives Punjab Kings a new ray of hope. With his leadership experience and past success in crunch situations, Iyer wants to lead PBKS to their first-ever IPL championship. The task is still challenging, but with the right tactics and performances, Punjab might at last experience a breakthrough in IPL 2025.
