Novak Djokovic moved into the third round of the French Open with a straight-set win over Corentin Moutet on Thursday. The Serbian star, chasing his 25th Grand Slam title, won 6-3, 6-2, 7-6(1) in a match lasting just over three hours.
Moutet’s Fight, Djokovic’s Class
Although Moutet challenged Djokovic with impressive drop shots, his effort wasn’t enough to overcome the Serbian’s experience and skill. Djokovic played at a high level, following his recent win at the Geneva Open, where he claimed his 100th ATP title.
Djokovic Reflects on the Match
After the victory, Djokovic reflected on the match, saying, “Mentally I had to stay concentrated and prepared for a match like that. Corentin is a player who has great speed, it was a great battle, especially the third set. I saved a set point… At that moment, anything is possible. I found a shot to stay in the set, a good service. I think in general I played well, I managed to stay calm on court, which was not easy at times.”
Sinner Shuts the Door on Gasquet’s Career
In other news, world number one Jannik Sinner defeated Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-0, 6-4, bringing an end to the 38-year-old’s career at the French Open. Gasquet, playing in his 22nd French Open, was eliminated after just under two hours of play.
Sinner Extends Grand Slam Streak
For Sinner, the win marked his 16th consecutive Grand Slam victory. He became the first man born after 1990 to achieve this remarkable feat.
