Bumrah Joins Elite 400-Wicket Club in India’s Test Victory

Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the 10th Indian bowler to take 400 wickets in international cricket. He reached this feat during India’s first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. In Bangladesh’s first innings, Bumrah delivered an impressive performance, taking 4/50 in 11 overs, dismissing Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Hasan Mahmud, and Taskin Ahmed.

Bumrah now has 401 wickets in 196 international matches, with an average of 21.01 and best figures of 6/19. He is the sixth Indian pacer to reach this mark. His career in Tests boasts 163 wickets in 37 matches, at an average of 20.49 with 10 five-wicket hauls. In 89 ODIs, he has taken 149 wickets at an average of 23.55, and in 70 T20Is, he has claimed 89 wickets at an average of 17.74. The top three Indian wicket-takers in international cricket remain Anil Kumble (953), Ravichandran Ashwin (744), and Harbhajan Singh (707).

In the ongoing match, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first. India’s top-order collapsed to 34/3, but Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) rebuilt the innings with a 62-run partnership. Later, Ravichandran Ashwin (113) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) added a vital 199-run stand, pushing India’s total to 376.

For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud shone with 5/83, dismantling India’s top order, including key dismissals of Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0), and Virat Kohli (6). Taskin Ahmed supported with 3/55.

In their first innings, Bangladesh struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals. Despite resistance from Shakib Al Hasan (32), Litton Das (22), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (27*), Bumrah (4/50) and Akash Deep (2/19) led India’s charge, with Siraj and Jadeja also taking two wickets each.
