BCCI Addresses PCB’s Call For Hybrid Hosting Model For ICC Events In India: Report

Talks between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the Champions Trophy have hit another roadblock. While there was hope after the PCB reportedly agreed to a hybrid hosting model—where India’s matches would take place in Dubai under certain conditions—the BCCI has rejected these conditions.

The PCB’s proposal included extending the hybrid model to ICC events hosted in India, but the BCCI dismissed this demand, citing the absence of any “security threat” in India. According to The Telegraph India, “Sources told The Telegraph on Tuesday that the BCCI has sent a clear message to the ICC brass in this regard leading to a fresh impasse. The BCCI’s contention is simple – there is no security threat in India and hence no question of accepting such an arrangement.”

The BCCI also reiterated its earlier decision not to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy due to security concerns. India is set to host several major ICC tournaments in the coming years, including the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025, the T20 World Cup in 2026 (jointly with Sri Lanka), the 2029 Champions Trophy, and the 2031 ODI World Cup.

Efforts are underway to resolve the standoff, with the ICC board expected to reconvene soon. However, the PCB risks losing its hosting rights for the Champions Trophy 2025 if it maintains its stance. Reports indicate the PCB had also threatened to pull out of the tournament entirely should the ICC move it to another country.
