Australia suffers major setback as Warner withdraws from BGT series due to elbow injury

Since the beginning of the India tour, Australia has been facing all kinds of trouble, not only on the field but off it as well. Two of the team’s top pacers, Starc and Hazlewood, were ruled out of the first two Tests of the crucial series due to injury. Later, Hazlewood was declared unfit for the entire series. 

Australia suffered yet another setback as opener David Warner has to return home due to an elbow injury, and he will not take part further in the series. Warner was hit by Mohammad Siraj during the second Test played in Delhi. As per the report, he had suffered a hairline fracture in his left elbow.

He was hit on the helmet as well; later, he experienced concussion symptoms and was replaced by Matt Renshaw in the Delhi Test. However, Warner is expected to play in the ODI series, which will be played shortly after the conclusion of the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy.

During the series, the visitors were humiliated in both tests. India has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy once again.

However, Australia has received good news in that Mitchell Starc is expected to play in the third Test at Indore after recovering from a finger injury. Cameron Green is also expected to be available for the third Test, and leg spinner Mitchell Swepson is set to return to the team after taking paternal leave.

Skipper Pat Cummins caught a flight immediately after the Delhi Test and landed in Australia for family issues, and he is likely to take the field in the third Test. But his status is uncertain.

The remaining two Tests in the series will be held in Indore starting March 1, and the final match will be played in Ahmedabad beginning March 9.
