Australia Announces Squads For England & Scotland Tours, Mitchell Marsh To Lead

The yesterday declared the squads for the upcoming T20 international and one-day international series against Scotland and England. During September, the Australian team, across the UK, will play three T20 Internationals against Scotland and England, before appearing in a five-match one-day international series against England.

Cricket Australia noted that Perth all-rounder Cooper Connolly made his first Australian squad after showcasing several star performances for the Scorchers in the Big Bash League, including a match-winning performance in the BBL12 final. Connolly had previously captained the Australian under-19 side at the 2022 ICC World Cup.

The squad changes see Matthew Short remaining home for the birth of his first child before entering the ODI Series later, Jake Fraser-McGurk moves up to the T20 squad following, and being a traveling reserve to, the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup. That trio of players is Spencer Johnson, Aaron Hardie, and Xavier Bartlett.

Workload management for players will ensure that Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc are rested in the T20 leg but will rejoin for the ODI Series as part of the set-up for next year’s Champions Trophy. However, Pat Cummins is going to miss the entire UK tour, according to a pre-planned long-term strategy on workload management.

Men’s selector George Bailey said that he used the opportunity to blood new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, with an eye to challenging senior players ahead. He said that proper planning was done in view of next year’s Champions Trophy and home Test series against India.

The Australian squads are as follows:

T20I squad: Mitchell Marsh (C), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

ODI squad: Mitchell Marsh (C), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa.
