Archery World Cup: India’s Archers Shine, Secure Medals At Stage Three

India continues to excel in archery, securing medals at the ongoing Archery World Cup stage three in Antalya, Turkey. The mixed team in recurve archery clinched a bronze medal as Bhajan Kaur and Dhiraj Bommadevara defeated Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia and Matias Grande with a score of 5-3 in the bronze medal match. This event is part of the Olympic recurve archery category.

Previously, the Indian women’s compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand Swami secured a gold medal at the same World Cup stage. This marks India’s third consecutive Archery World Cup medal after successes in Shanghai and Yecheon.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) acknowledged the victory of the Indian women’s compound team over Estonia, solidifying their position as the top-ranked compound archery team globally. The trio secured the gold medal by defeating Turkey in the semi-final as well.

Indian archer Priyansh also secured a silver medal in the men’s individual compound event, narrowly losing to the world-ranked one Mike Schloesser from the Netherlands.

However, the Indian men’s recurve archery team failed to secure a Paris 2024 Olympics quota at the Final World Quota Tournament, losing to Mexico in the quarter-finals. The Indian women’s recurve archery team also faced a defeat against Ukraine in the Round of 16.

The ongoing Archery World Cup stage three in Antalya features 12 Indian players. India has performed exceptionally well in previous stages of the competition, securing multiple medals including golds, silvers, and bronzes.

The World Cup stage three serves as the final event for recurve archers before the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying period ends. It also marks the conclusion of the 2024 World Cup stages before the World Cup final in Mexico in October.
