‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ star Shameik Moore has expressed regret for his initial reaction after the film failed to win an award at the 2024 Oscars. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moore, who voices Miles Morales (aka Spider-Man) in the franchise, took to social media (formerly known as Twitter) to voice his disappointment, stating that the film was “robbed” after losing to Hayao Miyazaki’s ‘The Boy and the Heron’ in the best-animated feature film category.

Moore faced criticism for his comments, with many rebuking him for belittling Miyazaki’s critically acclaimed work. Some urged Moore to show respect for Miyazaki’s artistry. Shortly after, Moore issued an apology, acknowledging that he should have been more gracious in his initial response.

“Respect to the winners. It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose. Spiderverse has impacted A LOT of lives, we may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on, and BEYOND….. yea get ready,” Moore wrote in a follow-up post.

One fan highlighted the appropriate reactions of Christopher Miller, co-writer and producer of ‘Across the Spider-Verse’. Miller had tweeted, “Well, if you’re gonna lose, might as well lose to the GOAT.” Moore quoted the fan’s comment in a tweet, apologizing for his behavior: “You’re right, honestly the whole Spiderverse team are such good sports. Very professional and I’m excited to see what comes of this. I’m young, and a fighter, so forgive my nature. Congrats to the winners.”

While ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ did not win any awards, the first film in the animated franchise did win the 2019 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
