The first event on an opening day was the screening of the film ‘Gandhi’- directed by Sir Richard Attenborough- under the Cinema Classics module at 9:00 am. More than 840 students attended the screening from various schools in different parts of the country.

Gandhi is a biographical film that re-enacts the dramatic events of the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Released nearly 4 decades ago in 1982, the critically acclaimed and Academy award-winning magnum opus of Sir Richard Attenborough is praised for its accurate portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi’s life as a freedom fighter and the Indian independence movement.

The film portrays the Gandhian era and the struggles associated with it which were prevalent then. After every cinema classic screening, the attendees are encouraged to think deeply about the film and then raise the questions they might have regarding the story, characters, direction, etc. And hence, many topics including the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and their applications in daily life, collaboration with the United Kingdom for this movie, and so on were discussed.
