UN Security Council Calls Emergency Meeting Amidst Israeli Strike On Gaza

Amidst the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, the United Nations Security Council has called for an emergency meeting on Tuesday.

This emergency meeting comes around the time when Israel has just conducted an airstrike on displaced people in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

As reported by AFP, this close-door meeting was requested by Algeria, who is currently a non-permanent member of security council.

Meanwhile, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed the Monday attack. Calling it “tragic mistake.”

Earlier in Rafah, a relief camp had caught fire, where displaced Palestinians were staying. Thus, Resulting in the deaths of 45 people.

Later addressing the Israeli parliament, Netanyahu declared, that despite their sincere efforts, these night’s events were indeed a “tragic mistake”. He announced an investigation into the incident to thoroughly examine the matter.

Meanwhile, Israel’s latest strike has invited worldwide international condemnation against the country, even from their allies over civilian casualties.

Currently, people of Rafah have been displaced from various region within the territory. But with Israel’s latest strike on the region on what it calls limited incursion, more civilians are fleeing the area.

The recent Sunday’s attack, deemed one of the deadliest in recent times, has further added to the Palestinian death toll, which now touches 36,000, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
