United Kingdom general elections, slated to take place on July 4, will witness a neck-to-neck competition between Conservative party leader Rishi Sunak and Labor leader Keir Starmer. The victorious candidate will become the next Prime Minister of the UK.
Countdown to Election Day
The British parliament was dissolved on May 30, marking the beginning of the election process. It also signified the end of legislative sessions, making all 650 constituencies in the UK empty. During this period, MPs cease their roles until after the elections.
Here are the key dates
June 7- Friday: Deadline for the delivery of nomination papers. Candidates must submit the nominations by 4 pm (local time). However, they have also the option to withdraw their names on the same.
June 18- Voter registration deadline. All eligible voters in the UK must ensure that they are registered by midnight to participate in the polls.
June 19- Deadline for postal vote applications.
June 26-Deadline for Voter Authority Certificate applications and proxy voter applications.
July 4- Polling Day. The British Elections would take place from 7 am to 10 pm across the UK territory. The counting of votes begins as soon as the polling station closes.
