A boat capsized in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of 20 people, according to Khaama Press, citing local Taliban officials. The boat, carrying 25 passengers including women and children, sank around 7:30 am local time in the Basal area of Mohmand Dara district.
The Taliban-appointed governor’s office confirmed that five passengers have been rescued, and the bodies of five victims have been recovered so far. Emergency aid teams from the Taliban-led Ministry of Health, along with other officials, have been dispatched to the scene to continue the search for the remaining bodies.
The tragic incident involved a “generator boat,” which sank under still unknown circumstances. The deceased include women and children, and efforts are ongoing to recover all the victims.
