PTI To Engage In Dialogue With Decision-Makers, Says Former President Alvi

Arif Alvi, a senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former president, emphasized the party’s stance on engaging in dialogue with those who hold genuine decision-making power. Alvi’s remarks came amidst calls from the incumbent government urging the PTI to initiate talks to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country, as reported by Geo News.

Responding to perceptions that the incarcerated PTI founder was reluctant to engage in dialogue with political opponents, Alvi asserted that his party would engage with entities capable of making substantive decisions.

Alvi’s comments followed a press conference in Lahore, where he expressed disillusionment with the accountability process in Pakistan, stating, “I have lost all hope as accountability is impossible in our country.” He commended the Islamabad High Court’s verdict in the diplomatic cable case, labeling the prosecution as baseless.

Criticizing the elite class for resisting accountability and investigations into sensitive matters, Alvi underscored his skepticism about achieving justice in Pakistan, alleging that accountability has not been a priority since the era of former military ruler Ayub Khan.

Highlighting the adverse effects of political developments on Pakistan’s economy, Alvi lamented the uncertainty created by regime changes, which prompted local businesses to invest overseas.

Last week, PTI rejected reconciliation offers from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor, dismissing them as futile. PTI spokespersons rebuffed dialogue overtures from Minister for Petroleum Division Musadik Malik and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, labeling them as irrelevant mediators lacking authority and credibility, as reported by ARY News.
