Pakistan Minister Mocks Imran Khan’s Jail as ‘In-Laws House’

While Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan remains behind bars, Punjab province’s Information Minister, Azma Bukhari, described Khan’s prison as his ‘in-laws house,’ according to Geo News. Bukhari’s remarks came after the federal government detailed the facilities provided to Khan at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, dismissing the PTI leader’s claims of “solitary confinement” and lack of access to his lawyer.

The Punjab government revealed that members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) could only visit their leaders in jail once a week. In contrast, Bukhari stated that Khan frequently held meetings in jail, plotting and writing critical articles. She demanded a judicial committee investigate Khan’s jail conditions, asserting that 40 to 50 visitors met with Khan regularly.

Bukhari sarcastically suggested that some judges believed Khan’s prison cell should resemble a five-star hotel, noting that he had access to an exercise bike, stretching belt, books, a separate kitchen, a customized menu, an exclusive walking gallery, an LED, a room cooler, and a study table. The government provided the court with photographic evidence of these facilities and a list of visitors. Since his imprisonment in August 2023, Khan has met with 403 people in 105 meetings over 246 days at Adiala jail.
