King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia is receiving medical treatment for inflammation, prompting the Crown Prince to postpone a scheduled trip to Japan, according to a report by CNN citing the Saudi news agency SPA.
Following medical tests, King Salman, 88, was diagnosed with inflammation and is currently undergoing antibiotic treatment in Jeddah.
Mohammed bin Salman, the Crown Prince and de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, has canceled his plans to visit Tokyo due to his father’s illness.
Earlier on Sunday, the Crown Prince met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan in Dhahran, SPA reported. The meeting covered various regional developments, including the conflict in Gaza, “the need to stop the war,” and ways to find a “credible track towards a two-state solution,” CNN reported, citing the news agency.
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud has been the King of Saudi Arabia since the death of King Abdullah in 2015.
King Salman underwent surgery in 2020 to remove his gallbladder.
In 2017, Mohammed bin Nayef was removed as crown prince, and bin Salman was appointed to the position.
