Kuwait Fire Tragedy: Kerala Announces Swift Relief Aid

In a proactive response to the devastating fire incident in Kuwait’s Mangaf area, the Kerala government has swiftly mobilized aid and support for the affected families. The incident, which claimed the lives of over 40 Indians, including 19 from Kerala, has prompted urgent action from the state authorities.

Health Minister Veena George is set to travel to Kuwait to oversee relief efforts firsthand, underscoring the government’s commitment to assist those affected by this tragic event. The government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured, aiming to alleviate immediate financial burdens. Joining Minister George in Kuwait will be State Mission Director (NHM) Jeevan Babu, tasked with coordinating medical assistance for Kerala residents injured in the fire and facilitating the return of deceased bodies back to their families.

The state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, has expressed deep condolences and solidarity with the affected families. Additionally, prominent Kerala-based businessmen Yusuf Ali and Ravi Pillai have pledged generous contributions of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively, channeled through the Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA), bringing total assistance to Rs 12 lakh per family.

Efforts are being made under the leadership of NORKA and with the initiative of expatriates to provide all possible assistance to those affected by the disaster,” the Kerala government said.

Kerala’s representative in Delhi, Professor K V Thomas, is in continuous communication with the Ministry of External Affairs, facilitating coordinated efforts between the state and central governments to address the aftermath of the tragedy.

As Kerala stands in solidarity with the grieving families, the government reassures its unwavering support and pledges to continue its efforts until all necessary assistance is provided to those in need during this difficult time.
