Canada: Justin Trudeau’s Party Loses This Constituency In By-Polls Elections After 30 Yrs

In a major setback, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party loses a by-election in Toronto-St. Paul constituency after 30 years.

The conservative candidate Don Stewart won the seat with 42 percent vote, defeating Liberal candidate Leslie Church, who acquired 40 percent votes.

This major setback occurs ahead of next year’s national election. Reacting to the results, Trudeau’s main rival and leader of conservative party Pierre Poilievr said, ‘Here is the verdict: Trudeau can’t go on like this…He must call a carbon tax election now.’

In addition, he also asked Trudeau to schedule elections early.

But despite losing the election, Trudeau promised to lead the party next year and will ‘work hard’ to deal with voter’s concerns.

Quoted by Bloomberg, he said, ‘This was obviously not the result we wanted, but I want to be clear that I hear your concerns and frustrations…These are not easy times. And it is clear, I and my entire team have much more hard work to do to deliver tangible, real progress that Canadians can see and feel.’

Meanwhile as per ANI, the approval ratings of Trudeau have fallen drastically low, which now stands at mere 30 percent.

For 30 Years, this constituency has been a stronghold of liberals for 30 years. On 2021 election, the Liberal Party won the seat with a huge margin. Which stood at 49 per cent to 22 per cent.

Interestingly, during their election campaign, conservatives made a huge emphasis on Israel-Hamas war and accused Trudeau of being soft in supporting Israel. They made this remark, in a district, where the population of Jews constitutes 11%.
