Ukraine receives first installment of USD 2.7 billion in IMF financial assistance

Ukraine has received the first payment of USD 2.7 billion from a new International Monetary Fund (IMF) EEF programme.
“Ukraine received the first $2.75 billion tranche under the new EFF programme today.   Thank you to our partners for assisting Ukraine on its way to victory,” Sergii Marchenko tweeted. The IMF authorised a new four-year extended arrangement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) of around USD 15.6 billion on Friday as part of a total support package for Ukraine of USD 115 billion.

The programme’s goal is to anchor policies that sustain fiscal, external, price, and financial stability and support economic recovery, while enhancing governance and strengthening institutions to promote long-term growth in the context of post-war reconstruction and Ukraine’s path to EU accession. The programme also assists Ukraine in implementing more ambitious structural reforms.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the Danish and Danish governments for the news. “Thank you to the Danish and Norwegian governments, led by @Statsmin and @jonasgahrstore, for the joint initiative to transfer an additional batch of artillery shells to Ukraine,” he wrote.
