Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has set a new record in women’s ODIs by surpassing Mithali Raj for the most centuries scored by an Indian woman. Mandhana reached her eighth century during India’s third ODI against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, where she hit a solid 100 off 122 balls. Her efforts helped India chase down a target of 233, securing a six-wicket win and clinching the series 2-1. Previously, Mithali Raj held the record with seven centuries in a remarkable career spanning 232 matches.

Harmanpreet Kaur ranks third in this category with six centuries, followed by Punam Raut with three, and Jaya Sharma with two. Mandhana’s crucial knock came after India lost Shafali Varma and Yastika Bhatia early on, but she and captain Harmanpreet Kaur took charge of the chase, steering the team to victory with over seven overs left. Facing a strong New Zealand team, Mandhana’s calm, composed innings reaffirmed her value to Indian cricket.

With this milestone, Mandhana is expected to continue breaking records in the coming years. Up next, the Indian women’s team will prepare for a three-match ODI series against Australia, set to begin on December 5.
