SK Hynix announced on Thursday the development of a cutting-edge mobile NAND solution geared towards on-device artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
Dubbed ‘Zoned UFS (ZUFS) 4.0’, this NAND flash memory chip enhances data management efficiency and streamlines data transfer between the operating system and storage devices, as per SK Hynix.
According to reports from Yonhap news agency, compared to conventional UFS, ZUFS 4.0 reduces the time taken to run smartphone applications during extended usage by 45 per cent.
Tailored specifically for on-device AI in mobile devices like smartphones, SK Hynix anticipates that ZUFS 4.0 will bolster its position in the AI memory sector alongside high bandwidth memory chips.
Mass production of ZUFS 4.0 is slated to commence in the third quarter, with plans to supply various on-device AI smartphones for global companies, stated SK Hynix.
In a recent announcement, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung outlined intentions to mass-produce high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips with 12 layers in the third quarter, aiming to seize a leading role in the burgeoning AI memory market amidst escalating demand.
