The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Assembly is set to kick on Monday, with the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government all set to quell any kind of attempt to disrupt the proceedings having delivered three guarantee schemes – Anna Bhagya, Shakti and Gruha Jyoti aimed at improving the lives of Karnataka’s citizens.
While under Anna Bhagya scheme, all the BPL and Anthyodaya card holders get 5 kg food grains and Rs 170 per person in lieu of the remaining 5 kgs of food grains, all households get 200 units of free power under Gruha Jyoti scheme, the free transport for all the woman across has been successfully running since June 11th. The modalities for two other schemes – Yuva Nidhi and Gruha Lakshmi envisaged for providing Rs 3000 for unemployed youth and Rs 2,000 for woman head of each family are in the final stages. These two schemes are expected to be launched in August second week. It is imperative to mention here that it was these pre poll five guarantee scheme promises that catapulted the Congress party to power. On the other hand, the government’s successful implementation of these guarantees have taken the air out of opposition parties – the BJP and JDS which are grappling with their own internal party issues. The BJP, with just 65 members in the state assembly and JDS with 19 MLAs have not been able to corner the government as the newly formed government led by Siddaramaiah has been busy clearing decks to rationally enforce all the pre poll promises. While the state BJP has still not got any signal as far electing the leader of opposition and a new state president after poll drubbing, the JDS which got reduced to half the numbers as compared to 2018 is facing a political churning owing to dynasty politics. The regional party is still undecided on a new state president as the sitting president C M Ibrahim has stayed away from all party activities post results. The Congress government is determined to curb the BJP’s influence in the well of the house by formulating strategic measures by expressing its commitment to investigate multiple scandals that transpired during the previous BJP government’s tenure, including the Bitcoin scam, PSI recruitment scam, transfer scam, and the percentage commission scandal. To address these allegations, the state Congress government plans to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT), signaling its proactive stance in handling governance-related issues. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah remains resolute in his efforts to efficiently implement the guarantee schemes promised by the Congress government. Despite the challenges and distractions posed by the opposition, the CM’s dedication to improving the lives of Karnataka’s citizens and fulfilling election promises demonstrates his effectiveness and commitment. As the Monsoon Session commences, the Siddaramaiah-led government seeks to address the concerns raised by the BJP while striving to maintain its position and drive forward its agenda for the betterment of Karnataka and its people.
