The Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, recently addressed Chinese activities near the Siachen Glacier, underscoring India’s firm position on the matter. Jaiswal reiterated India’s assertion that Shaksgam Valley is an integral part of Indian territory and highlighted India’s protests against China’s attempts to manipulate facts in the region. These statements come amidst growing concerns over China’s actions near the strategically significant Siachen Glacier.
Jaiswal also commented on China’s recent endeavor to construct a road in a part of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir close to the Siachen Glacier, reaffirming India’s stance on the issue. This move further underscores tensions between India and China in the region. India has consistently opposed any attempts to alter the status quo in areas under dispute, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
According to Jaiswal, the Shaksgam Valley is a part of India’s territory. He emphasized once more that the “China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement” has never been acknowledged by India.
“We have continuously expressed our rejection of the so-called China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement of 1963, which involved Pakistan’s illegal attempt to relinquish the land to China. We have never accepted it. He continued, “We have filed a protest against unlawful attempts to change the truth with the Chinese side.
The spokeswoman restated India’s reservation of the right to take the required actions to protect its interests.
“We have been protesting as and when required, we have always taken a very strong stand on it,” According to Jaiswal, China has made investments to build military infrastructure in the Shaksgam Valley.
Over the past few years, China has maintained military pressure on India by frequently crossing the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with incursions.

A study conducted by Northwestern University reveals that these incursions are part of a strategic plan by China to establish a permanent presence in these areas.
While border transgressions are well-documented along the 3,488 km long border shared by India and China, more alarming military activities are occurring in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). China has been constructing military infrastructure and roads in the Shaksgam Valley, which Pakistan ceded to China under the 1963 Boundary Agreement.
Additionally, China and Pakistan have collaborated on infrastructure projects in the Karakoram area of PoK, covering a distance of over 590 km. These activities infringe upon India’s historical and legal rights in PoK and pose a significant threat to India’s security.
