In the five-hour-long meeting, the Home Minister asks security agencies to ensure robust security for the forthcoming annual Amarnath Yatra.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday directed security forces to intensify efforts to eradicate the rising terrorism in the Jammu division of Jammu & Kashmir and to ensure robust security for the forthcoming annual Amarnath Yatra.

During a high-level security review meeting held in New Delhi, Shah emphasized the necessity of decisive action against terrorism. The meeting was attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, incoming Army Chief Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, IB Director Tapan Deka, J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DG CRPF Anish Dayal Singh, J&K DGP R. R. Swain, ADGP (Law & Order) J&K Vijay Kumar, and senior Army and Intelligence officers.

In the five-hour-long meeting, which was separated into two rounds, including a short break, Shah also emphasised that the Modi administration is dedicated to setting a precedent by tackling terrorists with innovative strategies.

The first round of the meeting focused on review of security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, while the second round was dedicated to the preparedness for the Amarnath Yatra, which shall commence on June 29 and conclude on August 19.

Shah specifically instructed the security forces to annihilate the resurgence of rorism in the Jammu division and prevent its reemergence in J&K, particularly as the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from June 29 to August 19, approaches.

During the meeting, Shah also reviewed a detailed report on the current law and order situation in J&K. He emphasised the need for strict measures against terrorism supporters, advocating for constant vigilance and surveillance of highways, critical infrastructure, and vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of the Amarnath Yatra, Mata Vaishno Devi, and Shiv Khori temple pilgrimages. He directed the sealing of all infiltration routes used by foreign terrorists to enter the Union Territory.

Shah praised the security forces for providing a secure environment during the recent Lok Sabha elections, which saw significant voter participation. He assured the UT administration of comprehensive support, both in terms of resources and manpower, to combat terrorism and its backers effectively.

The release highlighted Shah’s directive to replicate the successful strategies employed in the Kashmir Valley, such as the Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan, in the Jammu division. He reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism through innovative means and emphasized the importance of seamless coordination among security agencies, identifying and addressing security concerns in vulnerable areas, and maintaining a Zero Tolerance Policy against Terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shah noted the significant reduction in terror-related incidents in the Kashmir Valley, attributing the improvement to the government’s efforts, which have also led to a record number of tourists visiting the region. He commended the security agencies and J&K administration for the successful conduct of the Lok Sabha elections, which witnessed a record voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir.
