Under the proficient leadership of Principal Promila Malik from Government College, Kalka, the literary club Shabd Shilp successfully organized a lecture. The subject of the lecture centered on the art of translation.
Principal Promila Malik, while addressing the students, emphasized that translation is not only an art and craft but also a fascinating science. She highlighted that efficiency in translation comes through continuous practice, perseverance, and study. According to her, the primary duty of a translator is to remain faithful to the original text, ensuring that the fundamental idea of any article remains unchanged.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Ravindra Kaur, from the Department of English at Panjab University, Chandigarh, provided a detailed explanation to the students regarding the types, methods, and techniques of translation. Dr. Kaur also shed light on the obstacles and limitations encountered in the translation process, emphasizing that the essence of the original text should be retained.
Dr. Ravindra Kaur conveyed that translation, literally meaning restatement, is an art that transfers an idea from one language to another in a way that maintains clarity and has the same impact on the readers as the original.
The programme was orchestrated by members of the Literary Club Shabd Shilp, including Professor Dr. Pooja Singal, Professor Dr. Geetanjali, Professor Dr. Yashveer, Chairperson of the Hindi Department Professor Dr. Bindu, Professor Dr. Neeru Sharma, Dr. Geeta, Dr. Ramakant, and Professor of the Sanskrit Department, Dr. Pradeep Vaidik. The event was carried out under the guidance and direction of the researche.
