Will WhatsApp Stop Working on iPhones from May 5!

If you use WhatsApp frequently to talk and still have an older iPhone, it may be time to upgrade. Beginning May 5, 2025, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, will no longer work on some iPhones that don’t support the new iOS requirements.

As per the official statement, only iPhones running iOS 15.1 or newer will continue to support the app. If your device hasn’t been updated to this version or cannot support it, you’ll completely lose access to WhatsApp, that means no messages, no calls, and no notifications.

Which iPhone Models Are Losing WhatsApp Support?

The following iPhones will not be supported on WhatsApp after May 2025:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus

Why Is WhatsApp Dropping Support?

The reason for dropping them is primarily one of security.Apple does not offer software updates for the older iPhone models impacted, making them vulnerable to damage. Without software updates, such phones cannot serve to protect their users. WhatsApp thus chose to retire support for them.

What Should iPhone Users Do?

If your phone is on that list, the ideal course of action is to switch to a newer iPhone model. Smartphones like the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and beyond will continue to support WhatsApp for the time being. That said, please do remember that these phones are aging as well and may lose their support in the future.

If WhatsApp is an important part of your life, it’s advisable to schedule a phone upgrade in the near future in order not to experience any disruption in service.
