A spectacular astronomical event is set to take place on February 28, 2024, when all seven planets of the solar system align in a rare phenomenon known as the planetary parade. This will be the last chance to witness this alignment until 2040.
What is Planetary Alignment?
Planetary alignment occurs when planets gather closely on one side of the Sun. It can involve anywhere from three to eight planets, with larger alignments being much rarer.
- Five or six-planet alignments occur more frequently.
- Seven-planet alignments are among the rarest celestial events.
- The planets do not form a perfect straight line but appear along the ecliptic plane, the same path they follow around the Sun.
NASA explains that while planets seem to line up, their orbits are three-dimensional, making an exact straight-line formation almost impossible.
