Apple fans have something to cheer about at least with the iPhone 17 series. A leak recently indicated that Apple will finally bring ProMotion, a display technology with 120Hz refresh rate to its standard iPhones. Inclusion of ProMotion on standard iPhones might be one of the game-changers since it has been a characteristic of Android phones for years now, even budget-friendly options.
Reports state that the iPhone 17 and the supposed iPhone 17 Slim, which is said to be released in 2025, will have ProMotion displays. This adaptive refresh rate technology was first introduced with the iPad Pro in 2017, dynamically adjusting the refresh rate of the screen in real time to either enhance performance or save battery life. Although it has been in Apple‘s Pro lineup so far, this will mark its first appearance in the standard iPhone line.
ProMotion will further enhance the user experience with smoother scrolling and animations. The technology also enables more advanced features, such as the always-on display, which is currently available only on Pro models. Adding this feature to the iPhone 17 series may make premium features more accessible to a wider range of users.
Apple‘s delaying the release of ProMotion to its everyday iPhone line up might be motivated by high production costs, or simply as a tactical move to get users in the mindset to choose more Pro devices. Whatever the reasoning, in 2025, the addition may almost feel like a blessing among those that have been asking for such an upgrade.
The ProMotion rumour comes from Digital Chat Station, a leaker known for accurate predictions, especially around Apple‘s camera upgrades. The same source has hinted at a major redesign for the iPhone 17‘s rear camera layout, adding another layer of anticipation to the lineup.
Including ProMotion within the iPhone 17 would be a statement by Apple to minimise feature gaps in its standard and Pro offerings. While enthusiasts may proclaim that this step is due long ago, it at least demonstrates how Apple is innovating its product line toward meeting the demands of customers.
As more leaks continue to emerge, the buzz for iPhone 17 seems to intensify. 2025 may seem quite a while away, but these rumours indicate that Apple is gearing up to make tremendous strides in its future releases.
