Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji’s bail plea was deferred to next week on Monday by the Supreme Court. A bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M.

Trivedi adjourned the hearing to November 6. Senthil Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in June this year in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam. When a bench of Justice G, Jayachandran of the Madras High Court refused Senthil Balaji bail on medical grounds, he then approached the Supreme Court.

The Madras High Court had accepted the Enforcement Directorate (ED) contention that the DMK leader was an influential person and could tamper with evidence and influence witnesses if he was given bail.

According to the Special Leave Petition that was filed before the SC, Senthil Balaji had undergone a by-pass surgery in June at Cauvery Hospital, Chennai, and was still under medication.

The plea filed by his advocate, Misha Rastogi, stated, “Despite the medications that are being taken under the care of Puzhal Prison Hospital, his recovery is very slow and he is still suffering from chest discomfort, pain and discomfort.”
