Samsung’s latest addition in the F -series is a practical, good-looking device with a large battery. It is basic but does it stand out in any department to make itself unique? Let’s find out.

DESIGN & DISPLAY

Galaxy F22 comes in a plastic body with display with panel made of Gorilla Glass 5. It’s available in two varaints — Denim Black and Denim Blue. It gets a complete matte finish and a bit of texturing at the back which makes the grip even better. The fir & finish of the device is good and measures at 9.4mm thickness and 203g weight. Even with a 6000 mAh battery the device is easy to hold & is not heavy.

Samsung Galaxy F22 has a 6.4-inch display with a waterdrop-style notch at the top and a noticeable chin at the bottom. The display notch does take the class away from the device. The 6.4-inch display has an HD+ (720×1600) resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. The Super AMOLED panel, Samsung has enabled an Always On Display feature.

SOFTWARE & PERFORMANCE

Galaxy F22 heart is the MediaTek Helio G80 processor. This SoC has two Cortex-A75 cores clocked at up to 2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz. The phone has either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage, along with a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 1TB.

The device comes with a single speaker located at the bottom and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top. The battery supports wired charging at up to 25W.

Galaxy F22 runs Samsung’s One UI 3.1 software, which is based on Android 11.

The 90Hz refresh rate display makes the interface experience more delightful. The device does work smoothly when multi- tasking. To be using it with multiple apps functioning at the same time you wouldn’t be disappointed. The device might not be the best in class & it’s competitors might fare better in these departments. The device is not gamers delight as it tends to heat up too quickly.

BATTERY

The 6,000mAh battery can be charged at up to 25W, but Samsung only includes a 15W charger in the box. The charging process took long as long as 3 hours but then what helps is the large battery size it nearly worked at a stretch for one and half day. I was using the device on 90Hz if you change the default setting to 60Hz you might get an extra half day battery life.

CAMERA

Galaxy F22 gets a quad camera setup at the back with a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor that’s used when the Portrait mode is active. You get a 13MP front camera.

Photos taken by the primary lens were accurate and did the job well. You will get desired colors & saturation. Might not be the same case with the ultera- wide lens which seems to have slightly distorted images. The Macro lens does capture detail well but might not be accurate with the sharpness.

The front lens does the job well. The best you can expect from a budgeted smartphone selfie lens it goes beyond that.

Low light & night photography is just above average. The Night Mode does help in giving some brightness to the image but takes away most of the texture. It seems to be really worked on and loses the real impact.

Video recording tops out at 1080p 30fps for the device. Recording on the device was decent.

Samsung’s Galaxy F22 is available in two variants. There’s a base 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant, which we received for this review, and is priced at Rs 12,499 in India. Then there’s the second variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which is priced at Rs 14,499.

VERDICT

Samsung Galaxy F22 is a budgeted device which works well for your basic needs. It really doesn’t excel in any department but is not a miss in any as well. The display and battery are the high point of this device. The only shortcoming it will face is the amount of competition it has in the market in this bracket.
