In a major breakthrough, Samba Police has dismantled a notorious gang of thieves, apprehending three individuals, including the alleged kingpin. The successful operation led to the recovery of stolen items valued at approximately ₹90,000 and the seizure of a vehicle used in the commission of the crimes. The arrests were made within the jurisdiction of the Ghagwal police station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Omkar Bhagat, also known as Gushu, son of Raj Kumar, and Roop Lal, alias Roopa, son of Bodh Raj, both residents of Hamirpur, tehsil Marheen, district Kathua. The third individual apprehended is Sourav Sharma, alias Kalu, son of Ram Krishan, hailing from Sandi tehsil Ghagwal, district Samba.

Omkar Bhagat, identified as the kingpin, orchestrated a series of thefts in Samba district during midnight hours, with the other accomplices executing the thefts under his direction.
The arrests were made in connection with Case FIR No. 04/2024 under section 379 IPC and Case FIR No. 01/2024 under sections 454/380 IPC, both registered at PS Ghagwal. Investigations are ongoing, with police raids in progress to apprehend all individuals involved in this notorious gang.

SSP Samba, Benam Tosh, highlighted the significant achievements of the Samba Police, stating that a total of 181 thieves have been arrested, and 88 theft cases have been successfully solved in a short span of time. The police’s relentless efforts in the intensive drive against thieves in the Samba district continue to yield major successes.
