After the PGIMER revealed that 300,0000 Punjabis are entangled in substance abuse, Congress MP Gurjeet Aujla raised his voice against his own government while writing a letter to Punjab Police alleging that the latter has not been able to handle the menace of drug abuse in Amritsar. On this letter of Aujla, Shiromani Akali Dal spokesperson Adv Arshdeep Kler took jibe on Aujla and said it is good that Congress finally agreed on their failures.

In Punjab, the issue on which the government was formed in 2017 has once again come to the fore, with Congress MP Gurjeet Aujla speaking out against drugs. Aujla calls on DGP while writing a letter to Veeresh Kumar Bhawra demanding an end to drug menace. He accused the police of not taking action against drug dealers.

Aujla wrote in the letter to DGP and said that the people of Punjab who were once known for their intelligence and bravery are now called drug addicts. There has been a sharp rise in the number of drug and drug related deaths in the state of Punjab which is the responsibility of the police administration, he said. He has been working against drugs for a long time. He has on several occasions alerted the district police to take action, but the calm attitude of the local police has made people lose faith in him.

Aujla said that illicit drugs, illicit liquor and betting were becoming commonplace in Amritsar and this was causing frustration among the people.

The names of several senior officials and politicians have come up in the drug trafficking probe several times but they are in a sealed envelope instead of taking action.
