A significant development on Sunday was the inclusion of Congress leader Sachin Pilot in the Congress Working Committee. Pilot has been sounding discordant notes against the party and is rumored to not agree with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Ahead of the Rajasthan Assembly polls, scheduled later this year, Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge brought key changes to the CWC on Sunday.
Apart from Pilot being drafted into the party’s central leadership, the likes of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Shashi Tharoor, Jairam Ramesh, Naseer Hussain, Alka Lamba, Supriya Srinate, Praniti Shinde, Pawan Khera, Ganesh Godiyal, and Yashomati Thakur also found places in the panel.
The Congress may have made the decision to promote Pilot to the party’s central leadership as part of a plan to avoid a verbal confrontation with Gehlot before the crucial state elections. In the meantime, CM Gehlot predicted on Saturday that the Congress would win this year’s Assembly elections with a sizable majority. Govind Singh Dotasara, the president of the party’s state unit, Sachin Pilot, Ashok Gehlot, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa attended a meeting of Rajasthan Congress leaders in Jaipur.
