Marina Ovsyannikova, a Russian journalist who interrupted a live broadcast to decry military actions in Ukraine, has been arrested in Moscow. Radio Free Europe stated that Ovsyannikova posted on social media about her arrest by the police in Krasnoselsky district. She stated that she has been charged of culminating the actions of the Russian army on the pretext of an interview she gave supporting the opposition politician Ilya Yashin, who had been held in pretrial detention for spreading untruthful information about the Russian army, as reported by the media outlet.
Earlier in March, Marina, in a live state television broadcast, walked onto the set to denounce the actions of the Russian military and said, “Stop the war, don’t believe the propaganda.”
The ongoing war has resulted in a huge humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has fired top officials for failing to carry out their duties effectively. Zelenskyy also said that he has been informed about the officials’ collaboration with the Russians. According to the video published on Telegram, security chief Ivan Bakanov and Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova have been dismissed.
On 24 February, Russia invaded Ukraine which has led to the largest refugee crisis since the 2nd World War.
