Six Indian nationals, who were recently released from the Russian army, are en route to India and will reunite with their families in Punjab and Haryana. Officials said they are expected to land in Delhi on Wednesday.

The group includes five individuals from Punjab—Sajanpreet Singh, Shamsher Singh, Karan Bhandari, Avinash, and Sehyad Singh—and Rajat Gupta from Haryana.
A total of 15 Indians have been discharged from the Russian army so far. An additional 10, including eight from Punjab, are expected to return soon.

The Indian Embassy in Russia arranged air tickets for the returning nationals. This development follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s July 2024 visit to Russia, where he stressed the urgent need for the release of all Indian nationals from the Russian forces.
Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sawhney, who has been advocating for the return of these youths, expressed gratitude to the Indian Mission in Moscow for their efforts. India has been pressing Russian authorities for the early release of its citizens and ensuring their safety.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently informed the Parliament that 89 Indians are employed in the Russian army, with 66 seeking early discharge.
