The Rohini Court in Delhi on Tuesday directed the Delhi Police to submit the charge sheet in the Kanjhawala hit and drag case on the next date of hearing, April 1.
The Delhi police have told the court that the charge sheet is being reviewed. This event occurred on January 1, 2023. Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal prolonged the five accused’s judicial custody till 1 April. The 90-day time will come to an end on 1 April.
During the hearing, the court questioned the police when they planned to submit the charge sheet.
The investigation officer responded that the charge document is being reviewed and will be filed within a day or two.
The court stated that why they had not submited it on the next date of hearing in a day or two, and that all of the lawyers would also be present on the following date.
Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, Mithun and Manoj Mittal are being held in judicial detention. All of the defendants appeared in court.
Two of the suspects are out on bail in this case.
A girl was reportedly hit and dragged for 13 kilometers and nearly two hours in this case.
Section 302 (murder) of the IPC has already been added to the case by the Delhi police. The complaint was initially filed under sections 279 and 304 of the IPC.
The suspects were apprehended in January 2023. The accused Ashutosh and Ankush have been given bail by the court.
This case involves dragging a girl under a vehicle in the Kanjhawala-Sultan Puri area between December 31 and January 1, 2023.
Atul Srivastava, Additional Public Prosecutor, has been appointed as a special public prosecutor to defend Delhi police in the matter. The section of murder has been added by Delhi police based on evidence gathered during the inquiry.
SPP Atul Srivastava testified in court that the accused people had a premeditated intent to commit murder.
